Burying our heads
Bible:2 Samuel 12
I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have
given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what
is evil in his eyes? (V.8).

Lots of people believe the myth that ostriches bury their heads in the sand to ignore danger. An ostrich can run at a speed of 45 miles per hour, kick powerfully and peck aggressively with its beak. As the largest and fastest bird in the world, it doesn’t need to bury its head! “Burying your head in the sand” is something we can all be guilty of. A difficult, awkward situation comes up . . . and we just hope it goes away by itself! The prophet Nathan, however, did not allow King David to forget his sins of adultery and murder (2 SAMUEL 12:1-14). It took a brave man to confront a king
about the mess he had made. Yet Nathan trusted God’s leading, and went to talk to David about what he had done wrong. In a similar way, the apostle Paul teaches us to confront sin: “If someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted” (GALATIANS 6:1). This doesn’t mean we go looking for mistakes our friends are making, just to point them out. It means that we are looking out for them and caring about how they are doing with God. If we see friends at youth group starting to drift away from God, let’s not bury our heads in the sand. Like Nathan, let’s talk to them and remind them that their relationship with God is the most important thing they have!
