Wrestling with God
Bible:Genesis 39:6-12,20-23
But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed
him kindness and granted him favour (VV.20-21).
Reading
Joseph had no idea what would happen to him after his angry brothers faked his death and sold him to slave traders who took him to Egypt and sold him to Potiphar, an Egyptian official (GENESIS 37:36). He found himself in a culture surrounded by people who believed in thousands of gods. To make things worse, Potiphar’s wife tried to get Joseph to go to bed with her. When Joseph kept saying no, she framed him, which got him sent to prison (39:16-20). Things were looking worse than ever for Joseph. He had done nothing wrong, yet he found himself in prison in another country. God had given him dreams when he was a teenager; dreams that he would one day be in a position of power, even over his family (37:5-7). But now, it seemed like God had forgotten him. But God had not forgotten Joseph. He was making him the man He needed him to be. Not only was God with Joseph, but He also “gave him success in everything he did” and even “showed him kindness and granted him favour” with those in authority (39:3,21). Imagine how scared Joseph must have felt. But he kept trusting God and living by His ways. God was with Joseph in his difficult journey and had a plan for him. He has a plan in mind for you too. Keep focused on Him and His promises in the Bible. His eyes are turned towards you (PSALM 11:4) and no one can snatch you from His hands (JOHN 10:28-29).
