When the Titanic hit an iceberg, Pastor John Harper got his six-year-old daughter into one of the few lifeboats. He gave his life-jacket to another passenger and shared the gospel with anyone who would listen. As the ship sank and hundreds of people floated in the freezing water, hoping for an unlikely rescue, Harper swam from one person to another and said, “Believe in the Lord
Jesus and you will be saved” (ACTS 16:31). Years later, during a meeting for survivors of the Titanic, one man called himself “the last convert of John Harper”. Having said “No” to Harper’s first invitation, the man decided to trust Jesus when the pastor asked him again. He watched as Harper gave the last moments of his life to sharing Jesus before hypothermia kicked in and he sunk below the surface of the icy water. In his second letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul encouraged a similar urgency and commitment to telling people about Jesus. After talking about God always being with us, and reminding Timothy that Jesus is coming back soon, Paul then told him to “preach the word” (2 TIMOTHY 4:2). The apostle reminded the young church leader to remain focused, even though some people will say “No” to Jesus (VV.3-5). It might feel like the whole of our lives are before us. So what’s the rush? But we don’t know how much time people have. Nobody expected the Titanic disaster to happen when it did; then all of a sudden the issue of life after death was urgent! We need to get on and share the message the world needs to hear:
“Jesus saves!” (VV.6-8).

THE MESSAGE OF JESUS’ SALVATION
