Into the unknown

Into the unknown

Bible:Hebrews 11:8-16

Reading

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as
his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where
he was going (V.8).

I hate not knowing exactly what’s going to happen next. So things like new teachers, new classes and changes to my routine stress me out. I even have to flick through the last pages of books before I start reading them, so I know where the story’s heading . . . So I find the story of Abraham very challenging. “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going”(HEBREWS 11:8). It sounds like a total nightmare scenario! The start of Abraham’s story is Genesis 12, where God says to him: “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you” (GENESIS 12:1). How could Abraham just get up and leave everything? “By faith”: Abraham trusted God, so His promise was all he needed. God said He was going to take him somewhere important, and get him there, and that was enough for Abraham to trust his future to God. Honestly, we don’t know how things are going to work out most of the time. We often don’t really know where we’re headed. The story of Abraham shows us not knowing is OK, as long as we do know God. He will always lead us the right way.
