Good question
Bible: Isaiah 40:27-31
Reading
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth . . .
He gives strength to the weary (VV.28-29).
A thirteen year old in the youth group I lead came up with a good one. The
kind of question that leaves you going: “Errrrm . . .” The group are starting to really explore what the Bible says, so they come up with some big questions. As we were talking, this one lad asked, “So, who
made God? If He made everything in the world, how did He get started?” Good question . . .
And it isn’t easy to answer on the spot. But it’s one that many people think about. The Bible says that no one made God. He’s eternal—meaning He has no beginning and He has no end. Using the names of the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, God said, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, who is, and who was and who is to come” (REVELATION 1:8). These are terms that show God was here forever before anything existed—and He’ll always be here forever. And in Exodus 7:14, He calls himself “I am,” which is a name that again shows He has always been. His existence is totally different from
ours. So it’s hard to really get our heads round. Life often throws uncertainties, difficulties and questions at us. But we know this: we can take great hope and comfort in the realisation that our
God—our eternal, loving God—never gets tired of looking after us. He will always give strength for our journey (ISAIAH 40:28-29). He is our God, both for eternity and for today.
