Washed in love

Washed in love

Bible: Job 38:31-41; 42:5-6

Reading

You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by
faith alone (V.24).

A small church saw an opportunity to show God’s love in a practical way. Many Christians met at a local laundrette to help sort and pay for the washing of everyone who went in. They cleaned and folded the clothes together. And sometimes they even gave hot meals to families who were
really struggling to make ends meet. One church volunteer said the greatest reward was in the “actual contact with people . . . hearing their stories.” Because of their relationship with Jesus, these volunteers wanted to live out His love through their words and actions. And they wanted to build real, meaningful relationships with local families. James explains that everything we do should be as a result of our relationship with Jesus (JAMES 2:14-16). He says that “faith by itself, if it is not
accompanied by action, is dead” (V.17). Saying we believe doesn’t make us followers of Jesus, since the demons also believe in God (VV.18-19). Instead it’s when we serve God by looking out for others that we show our relationship with Jesus is the centre of who we are (V.24). Trusting Jesus and living for Him go hand in hand (V.26). After personally accepting that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross washes us in perfect love, we can share that love in very practical ways with anyone we meet.
