Standing Standing
Bible: Ephesians 6:10-18
Reading
Put on the full armour of God so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground (V.13).
The pastor got the phone call at 4:24 a.m. Their church was on fire. Later, when he picked his way through the damage, he was amazed to see the cross was still standing at the centre of the ruined building. “There is no logical reason . . . It is a wooden cross and yet the cross still stands.” Thinking about this, he said, “I think it’s a picture for us. Paul told the Ephesians, when you’ve done everything you can do, just stand.” When Jesus died on the cross, God gave His followers the power to keep going and stand firm in their trust of Him during the difficult times. The pastor and his church are looking to stand strong while rebuilding from the rubble. The passage quoted by the church leader shared Paul’s instructions to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” (EPHESIANS 6:10).
When we put on the armour of God (through knowing and trusting Jesus)— such as the shield of faith and the belt of truth—we will “be able to stand”, no matter what we go through (V.13). In the challenges we face, we can keep our confidence in God. We can give Him all our worries and anxious thoughts “with all kinds of prayers and requests” (V.18), knowing that He cares for us.
GOD HELPS US TO STAND FIRM.
