Excited for God?

Excited for God?

Bible: Revelation 2:1-7

Reading

I hold this against you: you have forsaken the love you had at first (V.4).

Why does our excitement for God fade so easily? When we first experienced God’s love, we may have spent hours thinking about Him, reading the Bible and telling others how much He means to us. Then it happens. Life gets in the way. There are things to do, homework piling up, friend issues, band practise, revision . . . Suddenly our enjoyment for Jesus is turned into a duty. We squeeze Him in when we can because we know we must. And even when we have quiet weeks and we’re bored, online gaming is so much more fun. The church at Ephesus also struggled to stay excited for God. Jesus
wanted to help them renew and live out their love and excitement for Him. Although He was pleased with lots of the stuff the church was doing, Jesus saw that they had “forsaken the love [they] had at first”—their love for Him (REVELATION 2:4). The Ephesians had lost their excitement for Jesus. He had become routine. Whatever it was that had distracted them, they had started to love
other things more than God. Have you allowed something to take God’s place in your life? Are you excited by Him? If things have gone a bit cold with you and Jesus, bring your thoughts back to the cross. Remember how much Jesus loves you and just how far He went to make you His own again. Thinking about this will soon fire us up again. How amazing is God that He would give up heaven just for you!

COMING BACK TO THE CROSS WILL
FIRE UP OUR LOVE FOR JESUS.
