Bible: Philippians 1:21-27

Reading

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the
gospel of Christ (V.27).

One warm, sunny morning, I met with some friends at a new coffee shop in town. We pulled up some chairs outside and sat round chatting and chilling. But we couldn’t help noticing the girl at the table next to us. She was sat on her own, zoned out from the world around her, reading her Bible. She was totally absorbed in whatever passage she was studying. Now and then she’d lift her head and stare at nothing in particular as she thought about what she’d just read—and then her eyes would dive back down and she’d be back to soaking up every word. She never said anything to anyone at that coffee shop, but her priorities were obvious. It was a gentle, silent example of someone doing life with God. She was not ashamed of Jesus or having her Bible out in public. She didn’t stand up and give a sermon at any point. She didn’t start singing or praying out loud. She just hung out with God, enjoying her time with Him. Sharing Jesus with people will always mean talking about Him at some point. But before we even get to that stage, let’s pray that people will see Him in us already. We can learn from this girl’s example—let’s be bold and brave, making God the centre of everything, everywhere we go.
