Wrapping paper

Bible: 1 Corinthians 2:6-16

Reading

We declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God
destined for our glory before time began (V.7).

Imagine your birthday or Christmas without wrapping paper! The fun would be over pretty quickly. There’d be no shaking of presents and trying to guess what they are—you’d already know straight away! I think God made us in a way that means we enjoy discovering stuff. It’s exciting to unwrap a present (even though the unwrapping doesn’t change what’s inside). And sometimes finding something can be more exciting than actually having it. We even get a buzz when we buy something new . . . but the something itself can soon become pretty boring. The Bible also talks about our instinct for discovering things. In Proverbs we read: “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me” (PROVERBS 8:17). And Jeremiah wrote this about discovering God: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (JEREMIAH 29:13). God could have made Himself fully known to us at the very beginning of time, but He chose to reveal Himself slowly (1 CORINTHIANS 2:7-8). Perhaps that’s because we enjoy things more when we have to search and wait for them. God is not playing a mean game of Hide and Seek with us. He is allowing us to enjoy discovering who He is and what He is up to in the world. So don’t be down about what you still don’t know about God. Be excited about unwrapping all there is still to find!

GOD’S GIFT OF HIMSELF IS A PRESENT
WE WILL ALWAYS BE UNWRAPPING.
