Fruit

Fruit

Bible: Galatians 5:22-26

Reading

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (VV.22-23).

How much would you be willing to pay for a piece of fruit? In Japan, someone paid more than £4,500 for one Densuke watermelon. Grown only on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, this beautiful dark-green fruit looks a bit like a bowling ball. That watermelon was one of only a few thousand available that year—which is what made it so expensive! Christians have fruit that is far more valuable than the Densuke watermelon. It’s called the fruit of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace, [patience], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (GALATIANS 5:22-23). Each “fruit” is a different way we should be growing more like Jesus. In the gospels, we see how Jesus lived out these very things. Now He wants to see them in our lives too—in what we say, how we think and how we do life (JOHN 15:1-4). A rare piece of fruit might get people paying silly money for it, but Jesus-like character is far more important and valuable. As we admit where we’re struggling and give our lives to God to lead, we will be transformed more to the likeness of Jesus Himself (1 JOHN 1:9; EPHESIANS 5:18). This ‘spiritual fruit’ will fill us with peace and satisfaction, giving love and care to those around us.

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT MEANS
LIVING WITH THE LOVE OF JESUS.
