Finding Treasure

Finding Treasure

Bible: Matthew 13:44-46

Reading

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field (V.44).

John and Mary were walking their dog when they tripped over a rusty tin. Heavy rain had left it sticking out of a muddy field. They took the tin home and opened it, finding a load of gold coins that were over a century old! They went back to the field and found seven more cans holding 1,427 coins in all. They protected their treasure by reburying it somewhere else! The true story of those coins (valued at about £8 million!) reminds me of an important story Jesus told: “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field” (MATTHEW 13:44). Stories of buried treasure have always been my favourite. Although they hardly ever happen in real life. But Jesus tells us of a treasure that is available for everyone who admits their sin and turns to trust and follow
Him (JOHN 1:12). We’ll never run out of that treasure either. As we leave our old lives and live for God and His plans, He meets us in fresh ways every day. Through “the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus” (EPHESIANS 2:7), God offers us treasure better than anything we could imagine—new life as His kids, new meaning on earth and the amazing the happiness of unending life with Him.

THERE IS NO TREASURE LIKE KNOWING GOD.
