Father forgive them

Father forgive them

Bible: Luke 23:32-38

Reading

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (V.34).

A twelve year old boy on a school trip to a museum stuck his wet chewing gum on a painting worth £1.5 million. The gum left a dark mark on thev valuable artwork. Officials at the museum were unsure whether they would ever be able to remove it. The boy was suspended from school. “I don’t think he understood that what he did was so bad,” said a school teacher. In Luke 23, Jesus prayed a powerful prayer for people who didn’t understand what they were doing. He asked His Father to forgive those who were putting Him to death (LUKE 23:34). They gave little value to God’s Son— beating Him, spitting on Him, hating Him and shoving a crown of thorns on His head. They drove spikes through His hands and feet and stabbed His side. They didn’t understand how awful their actions were. But through the death of Jesus, God offers forgiveness to all who turn back to Him and believe—including Jesus’ murderers. We all played a part in putting Jesus to death: He came to pay for the things we have done wrong. The good news is that God did this because He wants us back in His family. He forgives and removes the stain of sin, giving us a new life and future in Jesus.

NO ONE IS TOO BAD FOR GOD’S FORGIVENESS

—BUT WE MUST TRUST JESUS.
