The Devil’s Secret

The Devil’s Secret

Bible: Romans 6:11-23

Reading

The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (1 JOHN 4:4).

A driving instructor in Germany was stopped by police after an accident with a lorry. When asked for his driver’s licence, he couldn’t hand one over. He had been instructing students for more than forty years on how to drive, but he didn’t have his own licence! Years earlier, he had failed a driving test, and he was anxious about trying again. He was so embarrassed that he kept it a secret. The devil also has a secret in his past that he doesn’t want us to learn about. His secret? He no longer has the power to cut us off from God. He doesn’t want anyone to know this truth because he wants to keep those who don’t yet know Jesus controlled by their sin—and to get Christians caught up in it. It’s true that because of sin we were cut off from God. But when Jesus died on the cross, He took all our wrongs on Himself and paid our penalty in full. God then raised Jesus from the dead, and now He rules in heaven. When we trust in what Jesus has done for us, a relationship with God begins and our sin and selfishness no longer has control over us. Paul wrote, “Sin shall no longer be your master” (ROMANS 6:14). We’re not cut off from God any more. We are set free from sin, death and the devil (V.18). The devil’s secret is out in the open. We belong to God now; and He is the only one with power over us!
