Bible: Matthew 16:13-17

Reading

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (V.16).

When Jesus asked a question, it wasn’t because He didn’t know the answer. You can be sure He was making a point. Jesus and His friends were in Caesarea, Philippi, away from home. It was a place of fake gods and cruelty—a threatening place. In this environment, Jesus asked two important questions about His identity. He wasn’t interested in His popularity. He wanted His friends to be sure about the One they were following. Today many kids at school and others we know are just as anti-Jesus as when He first asked the question: “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” (MATTHEW 16:13). As in Jesus’ day, people had a lot of random (and wrong) ideas about who He might be, ranging from “just a good teacher” all the way to “mad” and “narrow-minded”. The real question was and continues to be: “Who do you say I am?” (V.15). Peter boldly answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (V.16). Jesus said that Peter’s words were a God-given insight and that he was “blessed” because of his understanding (V.17). Join Peter in admitting
that Jesus is your Saviour. Your life will be totally transformed.
