Not boredom but freedom
Bible: 2 John 1-6
Reading
I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls
(MATTHEW 11:29).
One day one of my friends said to me, “You seem to be happy. But if I had to live the way you do, I’d just as soon be dead.” He was saying my ‘good’ life was boring. But I had never thought of it that way. In fact, I often felt guilty because of all the things I got wrong. I grew up in a Christian home where I was taught that I needed Jesus. I learned that God in the person of Jesus Christ had paid the price for my many wrongs and problems and given me new, forgiven life with God. Then through the Holy Spirit, I recognised the truth of this teaching. And as a child, I put my trust in Jesus and gave my life to Him. From that day on, I tried to live out the command to love God and the people I met along the way (MATTHEW 22:37-40). Wanting to please God became more natural for
me because I loved Him and was thankful for all He’d done for me. In 2 John we are reminded four times to live honestly and to love one another (2 JOHN 1:4-6). Far from being boring, when we do this, we will find happiness and freedom. We won’t need to hope no one finds out our secrets or dark corners, because with Jesus we’ll be cleaning them up anyway. Living for Him gives us real freedom and peace. Only with Him can we become the kind of people we’ve always wanted to be.
