Just be yourself
Bible: John 9:1-25
Reading
You heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth
that is in Jesus (EPHESIANS 4:21).
Talking to our friends about Jesus is scary. It’s not like any of them are walking up to us and saying, “Hey, so who is Jesus? Tell me everything. I want to know!” They’re probably never going to raise the subject, so we have to. But how do we do it? When is a good time to talk about Jesus? And
what should we even say? I know I’ve often felt totally useless when trying to make some kind of attempt at sharing Jesus with others. I stutter and stumble along and never feel like I get anywhere. Sometimes half an opportunity will come along . . . and I’ll be too scared to take it. One Christian author has changed how I think about sharing Jesus. He says sharing our faith means simply being ourselves. We don’t need to plan lots of arguments. We don’t need fancy outlines, presentations or learned answers. He says, “Instead of using someone else’s words or story, use your
own. Just be you.” The story of the work Jesus has done in our lives is the best explanation for Him we have. We don’t need to beef it up or make it dramatic. When we tell the truth about how Jesus has saved us, changed us and is still at work in us, we’ll be explaining Him in real terms others will be able to understand. Like the blind man Jesus healed, simply tell your own story: “I was blind but now I see!” (JOHN 9:25).
IF YOU WANT OTHERS TO KNOW WHAT JESUS CAN DO
FOR THEM, TELL THEM WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR YOU.
