Bible: Psalm 32:1-7

Have you ever come away from art classes with glue, paint or clay stuck to your fingers? Some of it seems impossible to get rid of—you have to have the right kind of soap or cleaner to remove it properly. Our problems and issues can be like that. A friend sent me an email and asked me to pray. It read: “I can’t shake this issue. It’s something I haven’t been able to give up to God. I’m very sad about it and know that I must hand it over to Him and be transformed. I truly need God’s strength to rid myself of it. I know that God’s forgiveness can clean me if I let it. I just must choose
to let it.” I replied, “The joy of the Christian life is knowing that God can handle anything we hand over to Him. . . . But at the same time, our daily problem is that we—weak and helpless as we are hang on to stuff we know we need to give to God. We all know the feeling.” Our sins and problems, big and small, seem to stick to us like glue or oily paint. The answer? We need to take the weight of our problems off our hands and put them on God’s shoulders. The Bible tells us: “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you” (PSALM 55:22). We don’t need to carry our sticky, heavy issues. Jesus offers us real change and rest.

COME TO ME, ALL YOU WHO ARE WEARY AND

BURDENED, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST. MATTHEW 11:28
