Who I’m going to be

Who I’m going to be

Bible: Ephesians 4:1-16

Reading

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life

worthy of the calling you have received (V.1).

What am I going to do with my life? Have you ever asked yourself this? While we’re at school, life seems big and full of options. As Christians, we want to know what Jesus will want us to do . . . but it’s so hard to tell. Isn’t it? While we often think of this question in terms of jobs, where we’ll live, who we’ll know and that sort of thing, perhaps we should think of it in terms of our character. Maybe we should be asking, Who am I going to be in my life? In Ephesians 4, Paul wrote, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (EPHESIANS 4:1). He followed this with three “be” statements: be humble, be gentle, be patient, “bearing with one another in love” (V.2). Paul wrote this from prison, a difficult place where he continued to live out his purpose from God: to make Him known. No matter what we end up doing today, tomorrow or way into the future, who we’re going to be is what really matters. It’s all about putting God first and showing His ways, character and love. And we can do that anywhere: school, university, at home, at work or wherever we end up. When we are living for God, we can do whatever He asks of us, wherever He puts us.
