Come Back
Bible: Hosea 14
Reading
I will heal their waywardness and love them freely (V.4).
The people of Israel had turned away from God, and He wanted Hosea to show them how much that hurt Him. So, in the first few chapters of Hosea, we read a strange story: God told Hosea to marry a prostitute named Gomer. He was put on display as the faithful husband of an unfaithful
wife—and so he experienced a pain similar to what God felt when Israel rejected Him. As Hosea wrote the ending of his book, he made it clear that despite the pain the people of Israel caused the living God, He still promised healing, forgiveness and purposefulness if they would come back to Him: “I will heal their waywardness and love them freely, for my anger has turned
away from them” (HOSEA 14:4-7). Life for anyone who turns away from God often becomes full of guilt and dissatisfaction. Christians who slip away from God know that they are in the wrong place. And that wrong place is a heavy weight to bear. But just as the God of love offered Israel forgiveness and new life, even so today He offers the same to anyone who truly turns back to Him (1 JOHN 1:9). Have you made poor choices that have caused you to slip away? Come back. Speak to Him honestly about it, and discover just how much He wants you back!
