Praying for others

Praying for others

Bible: 2 Corinthians 1:8-11

Reading

On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help
us by your prayers (VV.10-11).

A big school project was weighing heavily on me. I was worried about if I would finish it by the deadline. During my anxiety, I got three messages from friends who wanted to encourage me. Each one said something along the lines of, “God brought you to mind today when I was praying.” I felt humbled and amazed that these friends would message me without even
knowing how stressed I was. I believed God used them as messengers of His love. Paul knew the power of prayer when he wrote to the people in the church of Corinth. He said he trusted that God would continue to deliver them from danger “as you help us by your prayers” (2 CORINTHIANS 1:10-11). And when God answered their prayers, He would be praised as the people gave Him thanks for the “answer to the prayers of many” (V.11). My friends and Paul’s supporters were engaging in the work of praying for others, which one Christian writer called “a hidden ministry that brings forth [works] through which the Father is [made known]”. As we focus our minds on Jesus, we find Him shaping us, including how we pray. He helps us
to give the true gift of prayer to friends, family members and even strangers. Has God put someone on your mind to pray for?

GOD HEARS THE PRAYERS OF HIS PEOPLE.
