Bible : Ecclesiastes 9:1-12

Reading

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might (V.10).

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. But I’ve never found the time to join a class. Or, perhaps more truthfully, I haven’t made the time for it. I have thought that in heaven I could probably learn to play any instrument. In the meantime, I want to focus on using my time in the ways God has called me to serve Him now. Life is short and things change quickly—whether that’s schools, classes, friends or anything else. We often feel the pressure to make the most of our time. But what does that really mean? As King Solomon reflected on the meaning of life, he came up with two recommendations. Firstly, we’re to live in the most meaningful way we can, which includes fully enjoying the good things God gives us in life, such as food and drink (ECCLESIASTES 9:7), clothing (V.8), relationships (V.9) and anything else—which might also include learning to play an instrument! His second recommendation was that we should work hard (V.10). Life is full of opportunities, and there is always more to be done. We’re to take advantage of the opportunities God gives us to do a good job with exams and essays, and also with making Him known to our friends. Life is a wonderful gift from God. We please Him when we make the most of both His daily gifts and opportunities to serve.

BUT I TRUST IN YOU, LORD; I SAY, “YOU ARE MY GOD.”
