Is He enough?
Bible: Acts 3:1-10
Reading
Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (V.6).
Is Jesus enough? That’s a question many Christians ask themselves. We have lots of stuff, things to do, hobbies to enjoy, boyfriends, girlfriends . . . But do we really depend on Jesus? Or do we live for all these other things? The Bible doesn’t tell us off for the things we enjoy (as long as they’re not harmful or selfish), but we are warned about what we’re putting first. It’s great that you’ve got your new smartphone, but is Jesus still number one? It’s great you’re going out with someone, but is Jesus still number one? It’s great that you’re revising hard, but even then, is Jesus still number one? He alone has to be what we live for, even while other stuff is going on. Peter helps us with this in the story of the lame man begging at the temple gate in Jerusalem. This man asked Peter for money, but Peter replied, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk” (ACTS 3:6). The man lying at the gate thought the answer to his problems was money, but Peter showed him that the answer was Jesus. And He still is. I read about a group of Chinese Christians who have much to teach us as they try to spread the gospel in their homeland and beyond. They say, “We can’t afford any big church events or fancy gadgets. All we have to give people is Jesus.” Jesus is enough for the rich and the poor, the happy and the unhappy, the popular and the unpopular. Is He enough for you?
WHEN JESUS IS ENOUGH, WE’LL FIND
WE ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING WE NEED
