His Presence

His Presence

Bible: Exodus 33:12-17

Reading

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest (V.14).

The anxious father and his young son sat before the psychic. “How far is your son travelling?” the psychic asked. “To the big city,” the man replied, “and he will be gone for a long time.” Handing my father a talisman (a kind of good-luck charm), he said, “This will protect him wherever he goes.” I was that boy. However, that psychic and that talisman could do nothing for me. In that city, I put my trust in Jesus. I threw away the talisman and clung to Him instead. Having Jesus in my life meant God was with me wherever I went. Years later, my father, now also a Christian, said to me as we rushed my brother to the hospital, “Let us pray first; the Spirit of God goes with us and will be with us all the way!”

We had learned that God’s presence and power is our only security. Moses learned a similar lesson. He had a challenging job—to lead the people through the desert and into the Promised Land. So Moses prayed, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here” (EXODUS 33:15). God promised him, “I will do the very thing you have asked” (V.17). Our journey is also full of challenges, but we are promised that God isalways with us. As Jesus told His followers, “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (MATTHEW 28:20).
