Expect Jesus

Expect Jesus

Bible: Matthew 13:53-58

Reading

Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary? (V.55).

The mechanic looked young—too young to fix our family car. He’s just a kid, we all thought as we watched him walk over from the breakdown van. Our reaction to that young mechanic sounded like the grumbling in
Nazareth where people doubted who Jesus was. “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?” they asked (MATTHEW 13:55) when Jesus taught. Making fun of Him, they were surprised to hear that someone they knew was healing and teaching. They asked, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” (V.54). Instead of trusting in Jesus, they were offended by what He did and the power He had (VV.15,58). In this same way, we may struggle to trust Jesus’ teaching and power, especially during everyday stuff. Do we really expect Jesus’ help in a maths class? Do we really think he’s going to do anything while we’re chilling with friends? When we’re not expecting anything from Him, we may also miss out on seeing His power at work in everything (V.58). As we found out at our broken-down car, the help we needed stood right in front of us. Accepting his help, the mechanic took one look at the old car’s battery and had it running in seconds. So too may we expect Jesus to bring fresh direction, life and help into our daily walk with Him.

YOU MAY MISS WHAT JESUS IS DOING

IF YOU’RE NOT EXPECTING MUCH FROM HIM.
