Write it down

Bible: Exodus 34 : 1 : 10

Reading

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness (2 TIMOTHY 3:16).

At school, students are often taught to take notes—by copying the teacher’s summary of a lesson for example, or writing down key points from videos. We don’t take notes just for the sake of it. Research shows that physically writing our thoughts on paper is one of the best ways to remember information. It helps the stuff we’re learning to really sink in. One time, some information from God was carved into a couple of large stones (EXODUS 34:1). God told Moses to chisel out two stone tablets and then He wrote what we call the Ten Commandments on them (VV.4,27-28). Another time, Moses told the Jews to write a series of family-related commandments on “the doorframes of [their] houses” (DEUTERONOMY 6:9). And the Bible in its original form was written on scrolls (SEE EXODUS 17:14). The important thing for us to know is that God used human authors to write down everything He wanted us to know—the writings we now call the Bible. Inspired by God (2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17), people wrote the words of the Bible so we could know “Christ . . . the hope of glory” (COLOSSIANS 1:27). Let’s thank God that He told people to write just “as they were carried along by the
Holy Spirit” (2 PETER 1:21). Now, as we read His words, let’s make sure we really let them sink in!

READING THE BIBLE IS GREAT
