Everyone Else
Bible: 1 Thessalonians 5:15-18
Reading
Always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else (V.15).
During a heated football game between two local secondary school teams, the home team kicked the ball into the goal. The ball hit the back of the net—and went straight through a hole and out the other side. The referee didn’t see the ball enter the goal, and spotting the ball behind the pitch called for a goal kick. The away team coach saw the goal and spoke up to confirm the home team coach’s claim that his team had scored, even
though he could have kept quiet. The referee awarded the goal. The away team lost the game 3-2. It’s easy to speak up when we want to get our way, but the Bible tells Christians to “always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else” (1 THESSALONIANS 5:15). Who exactly is “everyone else”? Well, it’s more than just our friends or family, or even just people we know. It includes the people we can’t stand—and even the kids who make fun of us. This verse is about doing good even to them, without expecting anything back in return (LUKE 6:35). When we actively try to make an effort to do good for others, we show that God’s love is for absolutely everyone.
DOING GOOD TO OTHERS SHOWS
THE KIND OF LOVE GOD HAS FOR THEM.
