Small is good

Small is good

Bible: John 6:53-71

Who dares despise the day of small things? (ZECHARIAH 4:10).

Just the other day someone said that a friend of mine in church is “destined for a great ministry”. I think he means my friend is headed for the ‘big time’: fame within the Christian world . . . It made me think: Why do we always expect God to send us off to do big, amazing things for the world to see? Why wouldn’t He send His best workers to small places? Aren’t there people in every tiny corner of the world who need to meet Jesus? God wants to save them too. Jesus cared about the individual as well as the crowd. He taught large groups if they showed up, but it never worried Him that His audience grew smaller every day. Many left Him (JOHN 6:66)—something that would have made most of us panic. Yet Jesus pressed on with whoever He met. We live in a world where bigger is better, where size and fame mean success. But we need to remember that size is nothing to God. No matter how we feel about ourselves or how popular we are at school, God can use us just where we are. Sometimes He changes the world through big people—but most of the time He changes individuals through quiet conversations that the world will never know about. So keep praying, loving and serving the people you know. Your little place and small works are not stepping stones to greater things; they
already are greater things!
