Proper procedures

Bible: James 1 : 1 – 8

Reading

[Jesus] gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age (V.4).

If you were invited to a meeting at Buckingham Palace with the Queen, no matter what you thought of her, you would probably go. When you got there, a palace official would meet you and explain how you should behave
when meeting the Queen: when to speak, when to bow, what to call her, etc. You would find yourself kicked out of the palace if you started talking over her or being rude! There’s strict rules for meeting with someone as powerful as the Queen; but how about when we come to God? He is the maker of everything—the true King of the universe—so it should come as no surprise that the Bible makes it clear that there is a right way to come to Him. Hebrews 11:6 tells us: “Anyone who comes to [God] must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” God wants us to be fully committed and focused on Him—and so, sometimes our unbelief and criticism towards Him can be a barrier for us. James tells us that when we ask God for wisdom, we need to ask “in faith” (JAMES 1:6). God is pleased when we come to Him with trust and
confidence in who He is. “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (HEBREWS 4:16). The right way to come to God isn’t about using the right words, doing it at the right time or following a formula—it’s about knowing who He is and
that He welcomes us to sit with Him. It’s about being confident that Jesus has opened the way to God for us, forever!
