Fast Feet

Bible: Philippians 4:10-19

Reading

The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights (HABAKKUK 3:19).

I was chilling in front of the TV when a Six Nations’ rugby match came on the TV. During the match, one of the French players was injured and had to be taken to the sidelines. As the trainers and physios gathered round him, the camera showed a close up of his shoes. With a black marker the player had written the words: “Habakkuk 3:19” and “Jesus is the way.” I was surprised, but also encouraged, to see him making his walk with Jesus as obvious as possible.

I looked up the verse on that rugby player’s shoes. Habakkuk 3:19 says, “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.” I guess this verse was very relevant for the rugby player, whose whole career was about being on his feet! But it’s also a verse about keeping going, relying on God and never giving up.

We need God’s strength in everything we go through. He alone can give us “feet” that are fast and strong. He alone can give us everything we need for the uncertain and difficult times. He alone knows the way ahead and is with us every step of the way. As Paul tells us: “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus”(PHILIPPIANS 4:19).
