Honest Doubts

Honest Doubts

Bible: Matthew 28

Reading

When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted (V.17).

People don’t come back from the dead. We know this. It’s a simple fact. And sometimes it’s a painful truth if we know someone who’s died. But it’s a fact all the same: dead people stay dead. End of. So it’s not really surprising that Jesus’ friends didn’t believe He had come back to life after His execution. The women who went to His empty tomb and saw Jesus was alive (MATTHEW 28:1-10) had a big job on their hands trying to make the others believe their story! But “the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted” (VV.16-17). “Some doubted”. Even though they had followed Jesus, listened to His teaching, had seen His miracles and were now stood right in front of Him, some struggled to believe He was really alive again. And yet Jesus told the whole group to share the good news of His new life. He said “I am with you always” (V.20) to the doubters as well as to those who believed straightaway. What do you doubt about Jesus today? Do you struggle to believe that He came back to life? Are you really sure your mistakes and wrongs have all been forgiven? Our doubts are not a problem for Him. Just as He spoke kindly and reassuringly to His first followers, so he says to us: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (V.20). Let’s come close to Him and talk honestly about our doubts; He’ll help us grow in our trust.

WE CAN EVEN BRING OUR DOUBTS TO JESUS.
