Easy Money

Easy Money

Bible: Ephesians 2:1-10

Reading

We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in advance for us to do (V.10).

Sometimes I wish I was a professional footballer or manager. Not for the fame or the trophies or anything. I’d do it for the easy money! Some players sign contracts worth millions of pounds, only to spend the season warming the subs’ bench. And a manager can sign a three year contract, get fired after one year, and then still get paid for the rest of the contract length without lifting a finger!

As Christians, we have to be careful that we don’t view our place in God’s family like ‘easy money’. We must never think, “Hey, I’m saved. I’ve got my place in heaven sorted. I don’t have to do anything for God. I’ll just chill on the subs’ bench!”

While we do have our place in heaven sorted, and we don’t have to do anything to earn it, there is more to our Christian lives than that. In Ephesians 2:8-9, after Paul clearly says that we do not have to earn it, and that salvation is a “gift of God,” he goes on. Verse 10 says we still have a job to do. As His people we are “created in Christ Jesus to do good works”. God has things planned for us to do while we are on this earth—not to pay our debt to Him, but to help make Him known to the world!

Life from here to heaven is not a holiday—it’s a journey of serving God and His people. And we do it with the peace and satisfaction of knowing we’re already sorted with God.

WE ARE NOT SAVED BY GOOD WORKS

BUT FOR GOOD WORKS.
