Bible: Ephesians 3:16-21
Reading
I pray that you . . . [will] grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the
love of Christ (VV.17-18).
I lay still and held my breath as the machine whirred and clicked. I knew people who had gone for MRI scans. But I’m very claustrophobic—I hate small spaces! So while I was in the MRI ‘tube’, I had to focus and concentrate on something—Someone—much bigger than me!
In my mind, a phrase from the Bible—“how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” (EPHESIANS 3:18)—moved in rhythm with the machine’s hum. In Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church, he described the unlimited, unending size and shape of God’s love.
Here is the size and shape of my MRI scan: width—six inches either side of my arms which were pinned to my sides. Length—literally from my head to my toes. Height—six inches from my nose to the tube’s top. Depth—right under my back! In a way, that MRI tube helped give me a picture of how God’s love
surrounds me. Although His love cannot be measured, it’s also closer to us than our most pressing, claustrophobic situation. Whatever happens, His love holds us up and keeps us going! God’s love is all around us. Wide: He extends His arms to reach all people everywhere. Long: His love never ends. High: He lifts us up. Deep: He holds us in all situations. Nothing can separate us from Him (ROMANS 8:38-39)!
NO MATTER HOW TRAPPED YOU FEEL,
GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU IS RIGHT THERE WITH YOU.
