I DON’T FEEL LIKE IT

I DON’T FEEL LIKE IT

Bible: Matthew 21 : 28 – 32

Reading

“I will not,” he answered, but later he changed his mind and went (V.29).

Homework. Tidying your room. Revision. Going to music practice. I just can’t be bothered!

Sometimes these things are just the last thing we want to have to do. When I feel like this, I repeat this motto to myself: “I don’t feel like it—but I’m going to do it anyway.” There is something about admitting our laziness and then choosing to take action that helps us get on with things we’d rather not bother with.

Jesus taught about this value. He told a story about two sons who were asked to work in the vineyard. The first said no, but “later he changed his mind and went” (MATTHEW 21:29). The second said yes, but did nothing. Then Jesus asked His listeners, “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” (V.31). The obvious answer is the one who finished the job.

Jesus’ illustration explains a key spiritual truth. God is interested in our faith and obedience—not just our good intentions. Next time you can’t be bothered to do something, it’s OK to admit that to God. Why not say, “I don’t feel like it,” and then ask Him for the strength to do it anyway.
