Known In Heaven

Bible: John 20:11-18

Reading

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me (JOHN 10:27).

Mary stood by the empty tomb and cried in her deep sadness that Jesus had died. She longed for Him to appear again and speak with her. But she thought all was lost.

Then Jesus did show up. In her grief, Mary didn’t realise who she was looking at; she thought He was the gardener. But when He called her name, she knew Him immediately. She cried, “Rabboni!” which means Teacher (JOHN 20:16).

People ask me if we’ll know each other in heaven. I believe that we will know and be known there. When Jesus received His new, resurrected body, His friends recognised Him (JOHN 20:19-20). And someday we too will have new bodies as well (1 CORINTHIANS 15:42-49; 1 JOHN 3:2).

“Rejoice,” said Jesus to His disciples, “that your names are written in heaven” (LUKE 10:20). Someday we’ll hear again the voices of loved ones we’ve lost whose names are written in heaven. Death is not the end.

There’s one voice, however, that I want to hear above all others—my Lord Jesus, calling my name. And, like Mary, I will know Him straight away. My Saviour!

IN HEAVEN WE WILL KNOW AND BE KNOWN.
