Ready For Heaven

Ready For Heaven

Bible: Psalm 39:1-13
Reading

My hope is in you (V.7).

I visited someone from church who was in her last weeks of life. I hadn’t seen her in months and was struck by how old and frail she looked. Cancer had weakened her body, yet she met me with a smile. As we sat and chatted, she talked about seeing Jesus soon. It was clear this lady was ready to go home to her Saviour—and see an end to her suffering.

In Psalm 39, David is tired from his suffering and prays: “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure” (VV.4-5). Life is short. Even if we live to see a whole century, our life is still just a drop in all of time.

And yet, with David, we can say, “My hope is in [God]” (V.7). This life is not all there is! In Philippians, Paul tells us, “Our citizenship is in heaven.” And we wait with excitement for Jesus to return. He “will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (3:20-21). That life will last forever (JOHN 3:16)!

GOD IS PREPARING OUR HOME IN HEAVEN.
