Listening To Your Brother

Listening To Your Brother

Bible: Matthew 18:15-20
Reading

Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins (JAMES 5:20).

“You need to listen to me, I’m your brother!” The older boy shouted to his younger brother, who was starting to walk too far ahead of him, next to a busy road. The older boy was much more able to spot dangers than his little brother was.

How many of us have ignored an older brother or sister, even when they were probably right? If you’ve ever had to face up to the fact you got something wrong and ignored good advice, you’re not alone.

One of the best things we have as followers of Jesus is His family—everyone else in our churches, schools and families who trust and follow Him. This family includes older men and women who have loved God for many years. Like the little boy I saw walking ahead of his older brother, we sometimes need these older Christians’ advice to get us back on track if we’re doing something we shouldn’t. Doing what’s right can be difficult. Yet Jesus’ words in Matthew 18:15-20 show us what to do when we’re shown a better way to live for Jesus: don’t be stubborn, but turn to Him.

Thankfully, our heavenly Father places people in our lives who can help us grow closer to Him. And when we listen, things go better in the whole family (V.15).

WE GROW WHEN WE LISTEN TO THE ADVICE OF CHRISTIANS WHO’VE LOVED GOD A LONG, LONG TIME.
