Unchanging Love
Bible: John 17:1-5
Reading
The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever (1 JOHN 2:17).
When I was in school I played on the tennis team. I spent many hours of my teenage years trying to improve my skills on four concrete courts near my home.
When I visited my home city recently, one of the first things I did was go to the tennis courts, hoping to see them still in use. But the courts were nowhere to be seen. In their place was a big, empty field.
That moment sticks in my mind as a clear reminder of how quickly life changes. One of the places I’d loved no longer existed! Thinking about it later on brought me to this truth, written by an ageing King David: “The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him” (PSALM 103:15-17).
Things move on and change quickly—even during school, never mind after it! But even if friends walk away, school life starts to feel less familiar or anything else changes, God’s love doesn’t. He can always be trusted to take care of those who turn to Him.
IN OUR CHANGING WORLD, WE CAN ALWAYS RELY ON OUR UNCHANGING GOD.
