Brave Stand
Bible: Ephesians 6:10-18
Reading
Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world (V.12)
Teresa Prekerowa was just a teenager when the Nazis invaded Poland, her homeland, at the beginning of World War II. This was in the start of the Holocaust when her Jewish neighbours began to disappear—arrested, imprisoned and killed by the Nazis. So Teresa and others in Poland risked their lives for their Jewish friends and neighbours. Teresa would become a key historian of the war and the Holocaust. But it was her bravery to stand against the Nazis that led to her name being listed in the “Righteous Among the Nations” at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem.
Bravery is needed to stand against things we know are wrong. Paul told the church at Ephesus, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil” (EPHESIANS 6:12). Clearly this unseen enemy is more than any of us can face alone, so God has given us His protection (the “full armour of God”) to help us “stand against the devil’s schemes” (V.11).
What might that brave stand look like? It’s something like speaking up for a friend who’s being bullied at school, rather than giving into your own fear of being singled out.
Whatever stand we have to take today, we can be brave—our God has already given us what we need to stand for Him and against anything that’s wrong or harmful.
GOD GIVES US EVERYTHING WE NEED TO STAND FOR HIM.
