What On Earth Are You Doing?
Bible: 1 Corinthians 10:31-11:1
Reading
Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God (V.31).
Ever heard, “What on earth are you doing?!” being shouted at you? It might have come from your mum when she told you to clean your room but found you playing on your phone instead. Or you might have heard it when your teacher caught you passing notes in class.
But what would you say if God were to ask you this question? Paul tells us that as followers of Jesus we have been put on this earth to bring glory to God in everything we do. So what should that look like? God’s glory is the evidence of all that He is: it’s about getting to know His stunning perfection. It’s seeing examples of His amazing love, His wide mercy, His deep generosity.
His glory is seen in His truth, justice, wisdom and power. To glorify Him means that we have the incredible honour of showing Him off in a world that is totally unaware of what He is really like. Being kind to those who hurt us, giving friendship to the lonely, being ready to forgive, living by what God says—all help others see the character and quality of our God.
There are a lot of rumours and misunderstandings floating around about God. It’s our job to let others see what He is really like. And, when they like what they see, let’s be sure to let them know who taught us to live like that. All the glory goes to God!
SHOWING GOD TO THE WORLD—THAT’S WHAT WE’RE TO DO WHILE WE’RE STILL ON EARTH.
