Magnets And Mums

Magnets And Mums

Bible: Proverbs 31:26-31

Honour your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you (DEUTERONOMY 5:16).

One day my teacher gave us a lesson on magnets and what they do. The next day, in a written test, she asked us this question: “My name has six letters. The first one is m. I pick up things. What am I?” When the test papers were returned, my teacher laughed out loud as she realised that almost half of my class answered the question “mother”.

Yes, mums do pick up things. But they are much more than ‘magnets’, gathering up clothes and picking up toys around the house. As willing as many mums are to do those things, there’s more to them than that.

A good mum loves her family and creates a home where each person finds love, acceptance, security and understanding. She is there when we need a listening ear, a comforting word, a big hug or refocusing. If we have a Christian mum, her greatest joy is to teach us what it means to trust and to love Jesus.

That kind of mum, dad or carer deserves our respect—not just when they get us out of a mess, but every day. And our love for them should be way more than words; it ought to be shown in respect, thoughtfulness and being willing to listen to their advice.

GODLY MUMS NOT ONLY BRING US UP, THEY BRING US TO GOD.
