Hard To Wait
Bible: Psalm 37:7-9
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him (V.7).

What’s taking my phone so long to download? Why am I in the longest coffee shop queue ever? When are they going to message me back? It’s hard to wait.
Most of us know too much about waiting, because we have to do it every day. We want instant results, and when we don’t get them, we drum our fingers, breathe heavily, roll our eyes and can’t focus on anything.
One researcher says: “Being impatient could cause anxiety and hostility.” It’s like when we’re waiting for a friend to get back to us, and when it takes a while, we start worrying we’ve upset them or that something bad has happened. And we start snapping at the people around us because we’re so wound up.
The Bible gives us a better way to deal with waiting: “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (PSALM 37:7). This doesn’t mean things will happen quicker when we turn to God; but that our attention will be on Him, not what we’re waiting for. We can “commit our way” to Him and “trust” His timing (V.5).
Whatever you have to wait for today, remember this: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (PSALM 27:14). Let’s make our waiting about God and what He is doing—and less about what we want to happen.
BEING STILL BEFORE GOD INCLUDES TRUSTING HIS TIMING AND HAVING CONFIDENCE IN HIS LOVE.
