Hiding Place

Hiding Place

Bible: Psalm 57

You are my hiding-place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance (PSALM 32:7).

Reading

Fear can make us freeze up. Like feeling stuck to your chair when your teacher tells everyone to bring their homework to the front of the class, and you’ve forgotten all about it …

That may not be the most extreme example of fear—but the point is that we all know what it is to feel afraid. It’s those moments when things have gone wrong, or the worst has happened, and we realise we’ve got no way to fix things. There seems to be no way forward.

I recently read something from a Christian author that’s really stuck with me. He said God’s love and care for us says: “Here is the world. Terrible and beautiful things will happen. Don’t be afraid. I am with you.”

Terrible things will happen. In our world, hurting people hurt other people. We know what this feels like, when even our friends are talking behind our backs. So we cry out to God in pain (PSALM 57:1-2)

But because God is with us, amazing things will happen too. As we run to Him with our hurts and fears, we find ourselves carried by a love far bigger than anyone’s ability to harm us (VV.1-3); a love so deep it fills the skies (V.10). Even when it feels like everything has gone wrong, God is our “hidingplace” (PSALM 32:7).

Even if things are hard right now, you can meet the day with a song celebrating His faithfulness (PSALM 57:8-10).

GOD’S LOVE KEEPS US SAFE AND MAKES US BRAVE.
