Wheelchair Ride

Wheelchair Ride

Bible: Psalm 59

You are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble (V.16).

Reading

Ben has muscular dystrophy and gets around in an electric wheelchair. One day he was crossing the road at some traffic lights when the lights changed. As it pulled away, a lorry caught the handles of Ben’s wheelchair in its grille. Unaware, the driver started down the road, and before long Ben was being pushed along at 50 miles per hour! Soon the rubber on the wheelchair’s tires began to burn off.

People passing by saw the bizarre sight and phoned 999 to tell the police. When the lorry driver pulled over, he was amazed to see what was attached to his lorry’s grille. Ben had a big scare but came away uninjured.

Sometimes we may feel as if our lives have been hijacked by unexpected circumstances. When David was invited to King Saul’s court, he calmed the king’s nerves by playing music for him. Then, unpredictably, the jealous king threw a spear at him. David found himself on the run as King Saul hunted him and tried to take his life. Yet David looked to God for his protection, every step of the way. Because David clung to God in his trial and experienced God’s faithfulness, he wrote: “You are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble” (PSALM 59:16).

No matter what our problems are today, God is here with us.

WHEN HARD TIMES CALL ON YOU, CALL ON GOD.
