Clocky

Clocky

Bible: Psalm 39

Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how [brief] my life is (V.4).

A university student may have helped to solve the problem of oversleeping. Twenty-six year old Gauri Nanda created “Clocky”, a foam covered alarm clock with wheels, which runs away and hides before you can hit the snooze button. The small motors move randomly so that the clock ends up in a new place every day. Before you can turn it off, you have to get out of bed and find it!

Whether we find getting out of bed in the morning easy or hard, each new day is another day gone. Does that sound depressing? It’s not meant to be! We simply need to keep remembering that time is short. We may feel like we have all the time in the world, with our whole lives stretched out ahead of us, but even as young people we need to understand our time is limited. One of the Bible’s writers prayed: “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is … Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure … But now, Lord, what do I look
for? My hope is in you” (PSALM 39:4-5,7).

What do you need to do today? Who do you need to make up with? What have you been putting off? Even those of us who feel “secure” and like our time on earth will never end need to realise time is always slipping away. Let’s use our days well and make ourselves ready to be used by God right now.

OUR DAYS ARE SHORT, SO LET GOD USE THEM WELL.
