What Really Matters
Bible: Matthew 16:21-28
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world and yet forfeit his soul?” (v. 26).
A few years ago a friend was taken on a tour of some of the stuff that has been rescued from the Titanic . When they started the tour, all the visitors were given a ticket with the name of an actual passenger who had been on the Titanic when it sunk in 1912 . After the group had finished exploring all the letters, pictures and other items, the tour ended with a surprising twist .
A large board listed the names of all the passengers, including their status—first class, second class or crew . As my friend looked for the name of the person on his ticket, he saw a line across the board splitting the names into two groups . Above the line were the names of those who were “saved” and below the line all those who were “lost” .
That board was a great reminder to him about what really matters in life . To those on the sinking Titanic, first or second class lost its meaning . What really mattered, in the end, was whether they were “saved” or “lost”. It’s the same for us today . As Jesus said, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (MATT. 16:26) .
Maybe you’ve already trusted in Jesus to put you on the “saved” part of life’s board . But what about the ‘passengers’ around you? Instead of thinking of them by what they wear, how they talk or how smart they are, remember that what really matters is whether they know Jesus or not .
NOTHING ELSE MATTERS COMPARED TO KNOWING JESUS AND MAKING HIM KNOWN.
