Heartache

Heartache

Bible: Luke 19:37-44

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it (V.41) .

Have you ever done one of those “which are you” online quizzes? Ones like “Which celebrity are you?”, “Which movie should you be in?” or “What’s your personality type?”

I was killing some time doing one when it asked: “What do most people not know about you?” The list of options it gave didn’t fit with what came to my mind . The answer is that I get very slushy . I cry when I’m watching movies or reading books—sometimes at the smallest things . I’m a total wuss really!

Maybe it’s no big deal to cry at movies and made up stories . But it’s a different matter to feel deep sadness over real people and their needs . When we ache for others because of their pain, struggles or anything else, we’re copying how Jesus Himself feels . He felt deep sadness and heartache when He came to Jerusalem because they had rejected Him . He said: “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace” (LUKE 19:42) .

Jesus doesn’t want anyone to be cut off from Him . As we meet people today who don’t know Him yet, let’s ask God to help us see them through His eyes . They are not just people—they are His people . But they are lost and heading the wrong way; they need a Saviour . They need Jesus .

Thinking it over . . .

Do you know someone who isn’t a Christian? How do you feel about them? Does their life without God affect you at all? Why or why not? Why not pray for them right now .

LOVE IS NOT LETTING LOST PEOPLE WANDER OFF.
