In the Grave

In the Grave

Bible: Psalm 119: 105-112

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (V.105).

I’ve always thought that I could get through just about anything if God told me how things would work out ahead of time. I believe that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (ROM. 8:28), but I’d do a lot better in dark times if I knew exactly what the “good” would end up looking like. If we knew the end-date of each problem, we’d wait them out much
more patiently!

But God usually doesn’t show us where He is taking us. He just asks us to trust Him. It’s like walking in the dark with a torch. The torch only shows up a short bit of the path ahead. But that doesn’t stop us from moving forward.

The Bible is a bit like a torch in dark times. It doesn’t show us exactly what will happen in every situation we’re in. But it is full of promises and directions to keep us from driving our lives into bitterness and hopelessness. It promises that God will never leave us (HEB. 13:5) and that He knows the plans He has for us to give us “hope and a future” (JER. 29:11). And He tells us that our trials will bring us closer to God and make us more like Him (JAS. 1:2-4). So the next time you feel as if you’re walking in the dark, remember to trust your torch—the Bible will light your way.

YOU WON’T STUMBLE IN THE DARK IF YOU WALK IN THE LIGHT OF THE BIBLE.
