Facing Disappointment

Facing Disappointment

Bible: Romans 5:1-11

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children
(ROMANS 8:16).

Recently I visited the Mysore Palace with a friend. The line to enter the throne room looked short—just down the hall and around the corner. But as we came closer, we saw the line of people stretching through the lobby, up the stairs and into another room. Every new turn revealed more waiting!

All theme parks, fairgrounds and tourist places zigzag their queues to make the waiting time look shorter. Yet disappointment is often behind each new corner. Sometimes life’s disappointments are much worse than this. We don’t get the exam results we wanted; friends let us down; we go through a break up. But even in these disappointments the Bible reminds us of our hope in God. We’re told that “suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame [or disappoint us], because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” (ROM. 5:3-5).

As we learn to trust Him, through His Spirit, God reminds us how much He loves us and that we will one day be with Him—no matter what disappointments we face. In a world that may often get us down, how good it is to know that we have every reason to be confident in our God.

What I’m Thankful for…

Father, thank You that I can always trust in Your perfect, unending love.

IN JESUS, WE ALWAYS HAVE HOPE.
