A Powerful Word

A Powerful Word

Bible: Hebrews 4:12-13

The word of God is alive and active (V.12).

When a teenager in Singapore named Poh Fang learned about Jesus’ love for her and trusted Him as her Saviour, her parents weren’t sure about her new religion. So they sent her older sister with her to church to keep an eye on her. But something happened that they didn’t expect. The teaching of the Bible challenged the older sister as well, and she accepted Jesus as
her Saviour too!

One psalmist said this about God’s words: “I will never forget your [teaching], for by them you have preserved my life” (PS. 119:93). That’s the story of Poh Fang and her sister—and of all who know Jesus for themselves.

The Bible is “alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword … it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (HEB. 4:12). The Bible tells us the outcome of living without God: “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (ROM. 3:23); “the wages of sin is death” (6:23). It tells us of God’s love and salvation: “God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved” (EPH. 2:4-5). And it gives good direction for daily life: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (PS. 119:105)
